Mozambique’s Ministry of National Defence (MDN) will launch the one-month 2019 military conscription campaign this Wednesday, 2 January 2019, targeting 170,000 youth throughout the country, and in all diplomatic and consular missions abroad.
A media statement said the campaign covers all Mozambican citizens of both sexes, born in 2001, as well as those who have not been able to do so before they have reached the age of 35.
“The military conscription will take place in the district administrations, municipal councils, administrative posts and educational establishments and in the diplomatic and consular missions of Mozambique of the area of residence for Mozambican citizens residing abroad”.
The defence ministry said the target is a mere 30 per cent of 18 year old against 214,000 people who were pre-registered last year.
In order to register, citizens must show their identity card, a document proving their academic qualifications (if any), and a residence declaration issued by the local administrative structures.
