Steady growth in Mozambican economy, says PM
The United States government has promised to make 42 million dollars available for programmes intended to strengthen the resistance of Mozambican communities to all crises, to provide humanitarian assistance to displaced household and to help create economic opportunities in the northern provinces.
The pledge came in a release from the US embassy in Maputo, which congratulated the Mozambican government for the launch, on Monday, of the Agency for the Integrated Development of the North (ADIN).
“The development assistance programme of the government of the United States in Mozambique will work in close collaboration with ADIN, as well as with the local government and the community leaders, to support the improvement of community health, providing professional training for young people, preventing child marriage, and helping infrastructure projects at community level”, said the release.
The US grant means that ADIN now has about 61 million dollars in its coffers to finance the first phase of its projects. At the launch ceremony, Agriculture Minister Celso Correia announced that 19 million dollars was already available.
For its first phase, ADIN will need over 383 million dollars. After the American grant, it is still facing a deficit of over 82 per cent.
President Filipe Nyusi launched ADIN on Monday. It is intended to develop integrated programmes covering the northern provinces of Niassa, Nampula and Cabo Delgado. The field of action for ADIN is vast, covering humanitarian assistance and resettlement of displaced people, food security, and guaranteeing services of basic education, health care and water and sanitation to communities.
