Mozambique: Polio vaccination campaign exceeds target, over 19M children vaccinated

Mozambique on Sunday (August 2) reported its 13th death due to the new coronavirus , a 66-year-old Mozambican man , who died on July 24, one day after being admitted at Maputo Central Hospital with breathing difficulties. He was tested on the day he was admitted to hospital 23/07/2020, MISAU reports, adding that: “the positive result for COVID was reported on 02.08.2020 ”. Still yesterday, Mozambique reported 39 new infections, five of which are children under 5, bringing to 1,946 the cumulative of coronavirus cases registered so far in the country, the Ministry of Health reported .
From Saturday to Sunday, 651 tests were performed in the country. All samples were tested in public sector laboratories. Of these samples tested, three (o3) came from Niassa Province, three (o3) came from Cabo Delgado Province; twenty (20) from Nampula Province; four (04) from Zambézia Province; three (03) from Tete Province; four (o4) from Manica Province; forty five (45) came from Sofala Province; four (04) from Inhambane Province,; thirty eight (38) from Maputo Province; and thirty (30) from Maputo City.
The newly diagnosed cases are distributed as follows:
Of the 39 new cases, twenty-six (66.6%) are female and thirteen (33.3%) are male.

Regarding those recovered, MISAU announced nine more cases, one from Cabo Delgado province, four from Zambézia, two from Inhambane and two from Maputo province. All those recovered are of Mozambican nationality. Thus, the country has 654 people free from COVID-19 and 1277 active cases.
