Two dead and 17 wounded is the preliminary balance of the damage caused by the wind and rain that battered Cuamba district in Niassa province on Wednesday.
Figures also indicate the destruction of 284 homes, 17 classrooms and three health units, in addition to cutting access roads to the city of Cuamba and the administrative post of Etatara.
Cuamba administrator João Manguiche said 77 families were left homeless, some of them taken in by relatives and neighbours, and others housed in schools.
The Cuamba district government and the Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction are still on the ground, surveying the damage.
