The Technical Secretariat for Electoral Administration (STAE) is to hire 43,000 persons to man polling stations in the October 10 local elections, the body announced today.
STAE spokesman Cláudio Langa, quoted by daily newspaper Notícias, said that polling station personnel would undergo training from the 24th of this month until October 5th.
After training, the group would then be allocated among the 5,459 polling across the 53 municipalities.
“Polling stations monitors will be hired according to the needs of each municipality, until October 5,” Langa said.
The training will run concurrently with the election campaign, which starts on September 25 and ends on October 7.
The October 10 municipal elections will be the fifth of their kind since the introduction of municipalities in 1998.
