Mozambique’s defence ministry said Friday that government forces have destroyed another hideout of terrorists in the country’s northern province of Cabo Delgado.
The operation was conducted by members of the Mozambique Defence Armed Forces (FADM), in coordination with regional friendly forces, in Ingoane, a village in the province’s Macomia district, the Ministry of National Defence said in a report on its official website.
“This is yet another successful operation by the FADM, after having recently carried out a military offensive on Matemo Island, in the administrative post of Quitarejo, which culminated in the killing of 20 terrorists, wounding and capturing of others,” the report said.
Cabo Delgado authorities said Wednesday that no more territorial unit of the province is under the control of terrorists and that the government has been trying to create conditions for the return of those displaced from their areas of origin.
A total of 147 schools out of 390 affected by terrorism in nine districts of the province were reportedly reopened this week.
