The Frelimo Central Committee will meet between the 27th and 29th of May to discuss preparations for the 12th party congress, spokesperson Caifadine Manasse told Lusa on Thursday (04-05).
Manasse said that the meeting of the Central Committee of the Mozambique Liberation Front (Frelimo) would analyse the report of the office for the preparation of the 12th congress, to be held from 23 to 28 September.
The Central Committee is the ruling party’s most important decision-making body, just below the Congress, and statutorily elects Frelimo’s candidate for the presidential elections.
In September, the Congress, the party’s highest body, “will renew the internal organs and discuss the seven theses” proposed by members of the organisation in meetings that have been taking place across the country, said Caifadine Manasse.
The seven theses that Frelimo is taking to the congress are National Unity, Peace, Reconciliation and Democracy; Frelimo’s Nature and Role in the Organisation of the State and Society; Good Governance, Ethics, Transparency, Fight against Corruption, Access to Justice and Education, as well as Science and Innovation as a Development Strategy.
Inclusive and Sustainable Economic and Social Development and Territorial Integrity; Defence, Security, Public Order and Fight against Crime and Mozambique in the Region, Africa, and the World are the other areas.
The September meeting will also focus on the economic and political situation of the country.
The 12th congress of Frelimo, which has been in power for over 46 years, will be held when the country is preparing to enter a new electoral cycle, with local elections in 2023 and general elections (presidential, legislative and provincial) in 2024.
