Sena railway line was reopened just before midnight on Wednesday, having been closed to traffic since January 16 following the derailment of a Vale trail between the Mapangali and Doa railway stations in Doa district, Tete province.
A press release from Ports and Railways of Mozambique (CFM) received by Notícias last night, says preliminary investigations suggest the derailment was due to the heavy rains that fell upstream in the Zambezi valley washing away the track bed, leaving the rails suspended.
With the route reopened, the Tuesday 10.30pm passenger train from Beira made it safely though to Moatize yesterday morning.
As a safety measure, CFM has strengthened teams on the ground and will monitor the situation during the rainy season round the clock.
