The Mozambican head of state Filipe Nyusi will pay a working visit to Russia from tomorrow, Tuesday, at the invitation of his Russian counterpart President Vladimir Putin, an official statement has said.
“The visit of the Mozambican head of state is part of the consolidation and deepening of the existing relations of friendship and cooperation between Mozambique and Russia,” a statement from the Presidency of the Republic of Mozambique distributed to the press today reads.

In Russia, the Mozambican head of state will hold official talks with Vladimir Putin, attend the opening of the Mozambique-Russia business forum and meet members of the Mozambican community in that country.
“This is a historic visit, the first by a Mozambican head of state to Russia since the dissolution of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics [USSR] in 1991, given that the last visit to Moscow was made by former President Joaquim Chissano in 1987,” the note adds.
The Mozambican head of state will be accompanied by Minister of Defence, Atanasio Mtumuke, and of Mineral Resources and Energy, Max Tonela, as well as the Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Maria Lucas, of Science and Technology, Higher and Technical Vocational Education, Leda Hugo.
