Former President of Tanzania Jakaya Kikwete, who is in Mozambique on a working visit, held a meeting with President Filipe Nyusi this Saturday in the city of Pemba, Cabo Delgado province.
At their meeting, the two discussed issues related to the current stage of implementation of the Alliance For a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) programme in Mozambique, including their perspectives and expectations in the short, medium and long term.
AGRA initiatives target the African agricultural sector, aiming to transform it from a subsistence model into businesses capable of improving the standard of living of African families who practice agriculture.
AGRA programs are currently being implemented in 11 African countries, including in Mozambique, most visibly in Manica province.
Speaking to journalists in his capacity as a member of the AGRA Board of Directors at the end of his meeting with President Nyusi, Kikwete explained that his organisation was working with partners to increase agricultural production on the continent through the use of improved, high-yield seeds.
