The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, has instructed the various sectors of the state to pay due attention to persons with disabilities, so that they have access to employment in state bodies and elsewhere.
The head of state was speaking in Maputo this Monday at the launch of the book “Together We Are More” – a report on the experiences of the ‘Porto Mais’ project developed by the Maputo Port Development Company (MPDC).
Filipe Nyusi said the government would continue to promote measures and protect the rights of people with disabilities, and issue instructions to all sectors to include Mozambicans with disabilities in recruitment processes.
The head of state went on to say that people with disabilities would be at the centre of government decisions, and that the government would do everything it could to ensure that this was no longer a promise only, but would be implemented appropriately across the whole country.
There are currently more than 700,000 persons with disabilities in Mozambique.
“Together We Are More” tells the life stories of 15 people working in an inclusive employment project for people with disabilities called ‘Porto +’. The project was started in April this year by the Port of Maputo in partnership with the Forum of Mozambican Associations working with Disability.
