The Matola Municipal Council is establishing and strengthening partnerships aimed at reducing urban poverty levels and improving the quality of life for the population through investment in basic infrastructure.
In this context, local authorities signed a memorandum of understanding yesterday with the Chamber of Industry and Commerce of Wuhan, China, with the goal of fostering commercial and industrial exchanges, promoting investments that drive Matola’s development.
According to the president of the Municipal Council, Júlio Parruque, the partnership will be crucial for generating jobs and promoting social transformation in the region.
“We want to share opportunities and explore Wuhan’s potential to promote investments that directly contribute to combating urban poverty,” he stated. A key aspect of the agreement is the inclusion of local entrepreneurs in industrial development, ensuring that opportunities benefit the community directly.
He highlighted the acquisition of Mozambique’s Cement Factory by a Chinese company as an example of investment that has been driving economic growth and providing jobs for young residents in Matola.
According to Parruque, the partnership also envisions improvements in road access, rainwater drainage systems, semi-collective passenger transport, among other infrastructure projects.
“Matola needs to solve issues related to local governance, urban management, passenger transport, roads, and urban flooding, with the construction of drainage ditches,” he said.
Yang Zhi, president of the Wuhan Municipal Committee, pledged to assist in resolving the municipality’s problems and to invest in areas with the potential to stimulate the local economy.
