Mozambique: LAM sells 12,000 tickets to Lisbon

More than 5,000 people working for cultural and tourism establishments in Mozambique have lost their jobs, following the closure of well over 1,000 establishments, thanks to the economic fallout from the Covid-19 pandemic.
Speaking at a Maputo press conference on Thursday, the adviser on tourism in the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Ndica Massinga, said that culture and tourism “are the sectors most affected by this pandemic”.
She said that 696 tourist establishments have closed, at a cost of some 2,000 jobs, while 3,500 people have lost their jobs thanks to the closure of 700 cultural establishments.
Among the closures are 484 restaurants, 155 tourist resorts, 45 dance rooms and 12 travel agencies. Under the rules of the state of emergency that took effect on 1 April all casinos, and gambling rooms were obliged to close.
In the cultural area, 32 museums and similar establishments are closed as are all public libraries, and schools of artistic education.
