Mozambican Migration Services (SENAMI) is extending the opening hours of three border posts to cope with the movement of people and goods during the festive season.
The new schedules will come into effect at the three border posts which normally see the heaviest festive season traffic on 13 December.
These are Ressano Garcia, which is now open 24 hours, Ponta do Ouro, which has extended its hours by five hours and now operates from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Melosa, which will be open from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 pm..
Ressano Garcia is Mozambique’s busiest border post, handling about 35% of all cross-border traffic, and expecting about 500,000 travellers over the festive season.
SENAMI will boost manpower at these locations to improve oversight and speed crossings, but nevertheless calls on travellers to follow guidelines and to avoid resorting to intermediaries. In the case of minors, it is particularly important that parental authorisation documents are in order.
