The Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) has suspended disciplinary leave [holidays] for all agents so that they can be deployed for public order and security duties during the 15 October elections, Police Commander General Bernardino Rafael announced during a parade by the Rapid Intervention Force (FIR) in Maputo on Friday.
The corporation would be ready and prepared to fully implement the security plan outlined for the elections, he said.
“The holidays are now suspended. We [police] are all summoned to work on the implementation of the security plan for the general elections. After this process, we will resume our normal leave regime,” Rafael said.
This plan foresees the coverage of the electoral campaign, the transportation and control of voting materials, security on voting day, counting and sealing of ballot boxes, the determination of provincial and central results and the definitive disclosure and swearing in of the new leaders.
In all, 40,000 agents will be mobilised to cover the process.
