The second edition of the Mozambique Music Meeting is under way. The event runs until Sunday, December 8, at the Franco-Mozambican Cultural Centre [CCFM] and the Parque dos Continuadores [‘PARKE’, according to the organisation], in Maputo.
Live music concerts will feature 17 national groups/artists, including Mingas, Lenna Bahule, the Ivan Mazuze Band, Stelio Mondlane Project, Isabel Novella, Moticoma, Dino Miranda, Cheny Wa Gune and Maputo Electrónico.
From abroad will be coming Blessing Bled Chimanga (from Zimbabwe); Zöe Modiga, Ishmael, Ben Dey and the Concrete Lions and Mxo from South Africa, plus the Pablo Lapidusas International Trio, with members from Brazil and Portugal.
The world music festival is organised by Maningue Productions.
The programme also includes debates, lectures, speed meetings between artists and promoters, a short course in cultural and musical production for professionals given by some of the delegates.
Those attending include festival directors, production agents, journalists and other significant music industry players.
The first edition, which took place in 2017 at the Franco-Mozambican Cultural Centre in Maputo, featured only national musicians, opening opportunities for youngsters like Deltino Guerreiro and Gran Mah to play in major festivals around the world.
