The Provincial Office for the Fight against Drugs in Inhambane province last Friday destroyed more than 400 kilos of various drugs.
Bagged or further processed and packed in various volumes – this is how drugs circulate in the “land of the good people”.
The drugs destroyed comprised three hundred kilos of cannabis sativa and 100 of mandrax. The cannabis sativa is locally produced, while the mandrax was probably from outside the province and possibly in transit to other parts of the country.
Forty-seven people have been arrested in connection with the drugs, some of whom have already been sentenced.
The Provincial Office for Combating Drugs told ‘O País’ that teenagers as young as 15 years old already use drugs in the province, while adults are involved in the drug trafficking and consumption scheme.
The districts with the highest number of drug seizures are Inhassoro, in the north of Inhambane, Massinga, the most populous in the province, and Zavala, in the south.
