MDM, the third largest Mozambican party, which on Friday rejected the results of the general elections, accused Frelimo, in power, of leading the country on a new “war adventure” for allegedly orchestrating vote rigging.
“Do not take us with you on your war adventures, because we want to tell our children tomorrow of the fruits of peace and not of misery and theft”, said the Secretary General of the Democratic Movement of Mozambique (MDM), José Domingos.
In a statement to the media in which he announced the rejection of the results of the general elections of the 15th, Domingos pointed out that the Agreement for Peace and National Reconciliation signed on August 6, in Maputo, is very fragile and should be consolidated through transparent democratic processes.
“The Peace and Reconciliation Agreement is so fragile that the actions to ensure this peace must have the involvement of all, through the primacy and respect of human rights”.
In this sense, electoral processes must be conducted with transparency so that the country does not slide back into a post-electoral conflict.
“Mozambicans have lived cyclically from election to election and military confrontations, due to poor management of electoral processes,” he said.
The third largest party announced today that it “does not accept the results” of Tuesday’s general elections, because they were “fraudulent” and “the most violent in the history of the country”.
“The MDM does not accept the results that are being published, because they do not reflect the will of Mozambicans. In civilised societies this type of election is not accepted”.
