About 500 foreign nationals have been repatriated to their countries of origin in the last five months, having been found to have been staying in Mozambique irregularly.
Illegal immigration, illegal stay and failure to communicate a change of address were the most numerous infractions detected from January to May 2019, according to the National Migration Service (SENAMI).
Clandestine immigration amounted to 26% of all irregular cases.
SENAMI says that 95% of citizens deported from Mozambique come from neighbouring South Africa, followed by Malawi with 4%.
