Frelimo, the governing party in Mozambique, said on Thursday that it is aiming to do very well in the municipal elections schedule for 10 October, and that it is in a position to do so.
“As you know, we are a very well organised party, and we want to win the elections and all the municipalities well,” senior Frelimo official Verónica Macamo told journalists.
Speaking after submitting the party’s papers for the elections, Macamo – who is also speaker of parliament – said that the party had sought to bring in new names while assuring overall continuity in choosing candidates for the municipal elections.
“We always give priority to renewal in continuity, to have the mix of experience and wisdom and new skills brought by the young,” she said.
The municipal elections are the fifth in Mozambique, with the first having been held in 1998, when municipal authorities were instituted in the country.
