The Pafuri border post in Chicualacuala district, Gaza province, will benefit from rehabilitation work later this year, with a view to providing better working conditions and improving revenue collection.
The fiscal posts in Manjacaze and Bilene, both in Gaza province, will also undergo renovations, as will also other means for monitoring road and cross-border movement, Noticias reports.
The news was revealed by the president of the Mozambican Tax Authority (AT), Amélia Muendane, at a patenting ceremony for customs officials in Gaza province. The officials concerned rose to the ranks of chief superintendent, customs inspector and assistant.
The increase in the number of customs officials will bring greater dynamism to the control of goods in circulation in the province of Gaza, known for its practice of agriculture and livestock rearing, mostly in the family sector, which corresponds to around 81.2% of global production in this part of the country.
On the occasion, Muendane declared that, in Gaza, the potential for taxable income is concentrated in the areas of public administration, commerce and services, “with the public sector standing out as contributing the most to tax revenue, with an estimated share of 69%, followed by the services sector with 11%, industry with 9% and commerce with 7%”.
