The 56th edition of the Maputo International Fair (FACIM) opens on Monday, August 30, and will run until September 5th at the institution’s premises in Ricatla, Marracuene district, Maputo province.
By Thursday, 122 exhibitors had signed up for the event, against the 250 expected.
Under the motto “Industrialisation, Innovation and Diversification of the National Economy”, FACIM, which was cancelled last year because of the Covid-19 pandemic, will take place in a hybrid fashion, with both on-site exhibitors and virtual participants.
Government spokesperson Ludovina Bernardo said exhibitors from outside Maputo province would exhibit virtually, and that visitors to the Ricatla venue would be limited in compliance with Covid-19 prevention measures.
FACIM, the oldest multi-sector trade fair in Mozambique, promotes business opportunities with various brands, services and products exhibiting.
In terms of international participation, the government’s projection was for 24 countries to participate, but by Thursday only 12 had enrolled.
Director-general of the Agency for the Promotion of Investments and Exports (APIEX), Gil Bires, recently said that work in the field was proceeding at a good pace, and that everything was in place for the timetable drawn up for the event to be met.
According to Bires, while the country must maintain trade fairs, not only to attract more direct foreign and national investment but also to promote exports, APIEX would ensure compliance with Covid-19 prevention measures during the event.
Another priority in this year’s FACIM, Bires said, was the promotion of exports through the granting of greater assistance to national operators. He went on to reiterate that, even in this adverse environment, the country must continue to attract more foreign and domestic investment.
