Empresa Moçambicana de Seguros SA (EMOSE) signed a memorandum of understanding with the Metropolitan Transport Agency of Maputo (AMT) in Maputo on Tuesday, establishing cooperation and partnership relations with a view to implementing actions and projects of mutual interest, for the good of society.
Joaquim Maqueto Langa, chairman of the EMOSE board of directors, said that, under the memorandum, the insurance company would provide insurance for all buses controlled by the AMT, in order to guarantee the sustainability in its important public passenger transport activities. The agreement guarantees that the AMT will acquire new vehicles.
“EMOSE is proud to sign this protocol with the AMT, and feels that it is playing its role in the new mission of being an active agent in the country’s development. Through this memorandum, we also want to carry out work in support of road safety, through the dissemination of educational messages on buses, as well as developing awareness campaigns surrounding accidents, among other actions provided for in the memorandum,” the EMOSE CEO pointed out.
Maqueto Langa added that the partnership would speed up processes in the event of an accident involving a bus operated by the AMT.
The partnership, he said, was part of an ongoing process of institutional transformation, with a commercial strategy focused on improving customer satisfaction through better services and greater flexibility in response to claims.
In turn, the AMT CEO, António Matos, welcomed the initiative and underlined that even just one bus immobilized by an accident was a huge loss, as it meant fewer people transported and, therefore, greater pressure on the remaining fleet.
“At EMOSE, we do not have an insurance company; we have found a strategic partner, so we are going to have a personalized service package through this MoU. Our buses, our passengers, benefit most from this EMOSE intervention. We want passengers to feel safe inside our buses,” Matos said.
AMT currently operates around 385 buses, and transports around 7.5 million passengers per month in the Greater Maputo Metropolitan Area, which stretches from Manhiça to Ponta d’Ouro.
