The Constitutional Council has scheduled the proclamation of the results of the October general elections for Monday, a statement from the institution indicates.
The proclamation will take place at the Joaquim Chissano International Conference Centre in Maputo, and political parties, coalitions, constituencies, electoral observers and other interested parties are invited to the event, the statement quoted by ‘Noticias’ today reads.
The election results announced by the National Election Commission gave Frelimo a big majority, with the current head of state and party candidate Filipe Nyusi re-elected for a second term as president with 73% of the first round vote.
Frelimo won 184 of the 250 seats in parliament, a 73.6% majority, and more than two-thirds of seats needed to pass constitutional amendments.
Contrary to what happened on previous occasions, the Constitutional Council scheduled the inauguration of the head of state, for January 15, before validating the elections.
