The National Elections Commission yesterday published the official results of the 15 October general elections and made a basic mistake. This does not change the Frelimo landslide, but it does change all the totals. For example, the CNE lost 131,593 votes for Nyusi.
The error is that the total registration is given for all constituencies, but the other numbers exclude Africa and Europe. Only the 11 provinces in Mozambique are included. Thus turnout was 51.8% and not 50.7% as claimed, and the total vote for Filipe Nyusi was 4 639 015 and not 4 507 422 as reported at the official ceremony and in material handed out yesterday afternoon.
See below the full tables correcting the CNE errors.
