The Economic Climate Indicator (ECI) of Mozambican companies slowed for the second consecutive time in August, the National Statistics Institute (INE) said on Tuesday.
The index fell from 99.8 points in June to 98.2 in July and in August stood at 97.
The indicator of the economic climate of companies (ICEE) decreased slightly in August, even though the indicators of employment and demand have registered an increase, the monthly bulletin dedicated to the indicator said.
The unfavourable assessment of the economic climate in August was due to the slowdown of the indicator in the business branches of other non-financial services, construction and industrial production, which outperformed the positive appreciation recorded in the trade, transport and accommodation and restaurant sectors.
The Confidence and Economic Climate indicators are a monthly publication on the economic situation in Mozambique, based on a monthly economic survey conducted by INE of companies in the non-financial sector.
The study expresses the opinion of economic agents on the evolution and outlook of their activity, particularly on employment, demand, orders, prices, production, sales and activity limitations”, the Mozambican INE said.Source: Lusa
