Watch: Dialogue in Mozambique has produced palpable results, Nyusi tells UNGA
Mozambique’s president, Filipe Nyusi, said on Wednesday that the military affairs commission and work groups that are going to manage the demobilisation, disarmament and reintegration of fighters belonging to Renamo, the main opposition party, have begun work.
“These work groups are going to be important for the (peace) process to succeed, which is in everyone’s interest”, Filipe Nyusi told Notícias newspaper today.
The groups will be composed of representatives from the government and Renamo.
On Wednesday, the president promoted three army officers indicated by Renamo as part of the peace consensus in the country, the presidency said.
The president also announced on 6 August the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two sides about demilitarisation and the integration of the opposition forces into the army and security forces.Source: Lusa
