Deaths in Mozambique associated to HIV/AIDS dropped to 69,843 in 2017 compared to 73,248 in 2016 and 79,124 in 2015, according to figures released on Friday by the National Aids Council (CNCS).
The CNCS said the reduction in the number of deaths was due to the increase in access to antiretroviral treatment, which reached 81% of people with HIV/AIDS in 2017.
According to a survey of released in 2015 on immunization, malaria and HIV/AIDS, Mozambique saw HIV prevalence reach 17.5% among men and 23.5% among women in the age group 35-39, making Mozambique one of the world’s worst affected countries.
