The Commander, Botswana Defence Force, Lieutenant General Placid Segokgo accompanied by the Joint Forces Commander, Major General Joseph Seelo visited SAMIM forces deployed in the Cabo Delgado Province on a 4-day official visit from 29 th to 3 rd December 2021. Upon his arrival, the Force Commander of SAMIM, Major General Xolani Mankayi briefed him on the Mission progress since deployment of forces. In the course of his visit, he had an opportunity to interact with the Head of Mission, Professor Mpho Molomo, SAMIM members and toured locations in Pemba District including operational areas.
Lieutenant General Segokgo commended SAMIM forces for their work since deployment and said that ‘the SADC region was very happy at the way the forces were executing their mandate.’ He urged them to do their best and to make the region proud by degrading the insurgents and stabilising the Cabo Delgado Province with the ultimate goal of achieving peace in the region despite the challenges they are facing.
On a somber note, SAMIM forces recently lost a member due to a non-combat related illness. A member from Lesotho Defence Force Private Moalosi Jacob Khoaele passed on the 28 th of November 2021. A Memorial service was held in honour of this fallen hero and his body has been repatriated to his native country. Our deepest condolences go to his family, friends and the People of the great Kingdom of Lesotho.
SAMIM forces in support of the Government of Mozambique continue to create conditions necessary for a return to normal life in the Province of Cabo Delgado as it pursues the terrorists. SAMIM would like to assure the people of Mozambique and SADC of a collective commitment to achieving a peaceful, stable and secure Cabo Delgado as well as the entire country of Mozambique.
