The Mozambican tax authority on Thursday said that by the end of this year all major taxpayers are to pay taxes through the electronic system as a way to combat fraud.
“We want to guarantee that by the end of December all major taxpayers pay through this platform,” said the manager of taxation projects of the authority, Tomé Moiane.
Moiane said that joining the electronic platform for the payment of taxes may be mandatory, considering the weak uptake to the model, launched in April.
Only 100 of the 500 major taxpayers of the Mozambican tax authority have joined this system since April, he said.
Moiane said the system is to combat fraud that has happened with the use of traditional means of payment, including cheques.
He also said that small taxpayers are to incorporate the electronic system from October 2019.
In addition to avoiding fraud, the service also aims to reduce time spent in meeting tax obligations.
