The Provincial Health Services in Nampula announced this (Monday) morning that there are currently 41 positive Covid-19 cases among health professionals in the province, without however specifying the exact number of doctors and nurses affected.
Since the first positive coronavirus case was recorded in Nampula province, 133 health professionals have tested positive for the respiratory disease, but without any deaths in the class.
At the moment, the major concern for the Provincial Health Services is that the number of medical personnel is low, in terms of doctor-population ratio, and if the disease affects health personnel at an increasing rate, the system may collapse, given the rapid spread of the virus which is being seen.
Meanwhile, many people in the province’s streets are still not wearing masks, and crowds disregarding social distancing recommendations can routinely be found in the offices of public services, in markets and in areas where informal commerce takes place.
