Mozambique tourism receipts rose 40 percent in 2017, earning the country more than US$150 million against US$107 million grossed in the previous year.According to statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture on Tuesday, the rise in tourism earnings was attributed to the rehabilitation of the sector’s infrastructure.
“Maputo, which has a larger tourist potential, was able to combine beach tourism, hunting and cultural tourism in a short time,” the ministry said in a statement.
It noted that, compared to other sectors, tourism provides growth opportunities for countries such as Mozambique that have a high incidence of poverty.
Mozambique has benefited from a surge in demand for curios and culinary tourism.
