Renewable energy company Phanes, based in Dubai, is to build three photo-electric power plants to province power to parts of Lichinga province in the north of Mozambique, local authorities said on Thursday.
The provincial government and Phanes signed a memorandum of understanding on Tuesday to build a 100 MW plant in Lichinga and smaller, 50 MW plants at two other sites.
The investment is expected to be around €170 million.
Official figures show that only one in five of the 1.9 million inhabitants in that province have electricity.
The central government said last September it was launching a programme to ensure universal access to electricity by 2030, partly provided by renewable energies.
