Mozambique’s Ministry of Higher Education, technology and Vocational Training’s National Quality Assessment Council has banned 18 higher education institutions from enrolling new students this year because of a lack of teachers and infrastructures.
It said the ban would last a year and then a new assessment would deem whether the ban would be lifted or not.
The decisions came after inspectors made 120 visits to the institutions.
The institutions have to solve the problems that were found or face punishment.
The punishment includes fines, suspension of teaching activities and closure.
