One week before the end of the military census, 140,974 young people out of the 170,000 planned – 82.93% of the target figure – had been registered. Of those registered, 96,869 are male and 44,105 are female.
Compared to last year, when 136,439 young people were registered, there was a slight rise of around 2.67 percent.
The Ministry of Defence points to patriotic awareness among young people, the engagement of state organs and the spreading of information about the importance of the military census as contributing factors.
The 21st military census runs from January 2 to February 28 throughout the national territory and in diplomatic and consular missions abroad. All Mozambican citizens born in 2000, as well as those who have not been able to register in previous years should take part, provided they are not yet 35 years of age.
