The choice of the Frelimo candidates to the heads of the list and to the members of the municipal assemblies in the province of Maputo is expected to take place next week, head of the central brigade of assistance to this province Eduardo Mulémbwè announced on Tuesday.
Speaking at the seminar on the dissemination of the directive for internal elections, Mulémbwè explained that this is a stage of the process that began with the party’s decision to participate in the October 10 elections and completes the work to support the province, marked by the officialisation of the offices of preparation.
Mulémbwè explained that the presence of the central brigade in the province of Maputo fits in with the general principle that guides Frelimo in preparation for its timely victory. In this context, he said, it is necessary to know how the representatives of the party will be chosen in the election bodies, namely the future presidents and the members of the municipal assemblies.
It is, according to Mulémbwè, a process of consolidation of the unity and internal cohesion of the party, of maintenance and harmony, and not cause for division. He emphasized the importance of unity between the members of the party so that there is security in the presentation of the candidates in the political market in the province.
He said that choices should ensure tranquility. They must be transparent so that, in the presentation of the candidates, voters can be assured that their desires for the creation of better living conditions will be made possible.
The head of the Central Assistance Brigade of the province of Maputo indicated that although they are general, the electoral manifestoes should take into account the specifics of each municipality, because, he said, Matola’s problems, for example, are not the same as Manhiça, Boane or Namaacha, which will also require specific solutions.
During their stay in the province, the central brigade will assess the performance of the secretariat of the provincial committee and the office of preparation of the elections, as well as holding meetings with community and religious leaders, party social organizations and civil society.
In the meantime, in commenting on the postponement of the extraordinary session of the Assembly of the Republic and its implications for the municipal elections to be held on 10 October, Mulembwé said that Frelimo would work to ensure that the elections took place as scheduled and under the best circumstances. According to him, the party in power wishes the electoral calendar to be adhered to.
