Mozambique: Natural gas enters the Rovuma Basin natural gas floating platform - AIM
The chairman of the Board of Directors of Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH), Omar Mitha has said that his institution will pipe natural gas to homes in the Mozambican capital starting in 2019, AIM writes.
He said that the project was a long-standing one, but economic difficulties had held back its implementation, adding that another problem was that various reserves in the Rovuma basin were still in the development phase.
A 12-kilometre pipeline resulting from a US$38.2 million investment partnership between ENH and the South Korean company Kogas links the city of Matola and the Maputo Power Plant and will serve three districts within a 60-kilometre radius.
The project has consumed a total of six million gigajoules of gas, of which 5.8 million were used by Mozambique Electricity for the production of electricity and distribution in the city of Maputo, with the remainder being used for industry, hospitals, trade, transportation and household consumption.
