The China Jiangxi Corporation for International Economic and Technical Cooperation(CJIC) is to build 500 houses in Muntanyana, Marracuene district, Maputo province, in a project worth an estimated US$100 million.
The first phase, which starts in August, comprises the construction of 100 apartments, and will create 200 jobs.
The Governor of Maputo Province, Júlio Parruque, accompanied by Marracuene District Administrator Shafee Sidat and other members of the provincial and district government, visited the housing project site on Wednesday.
The project will see construction of more than 500 residential buildings of Types 3, 4 and 5, plus a school, a health centre, a shopping centre, a sports ground and other services. The model houses and other components of the project are already fully decided upon.
The venture is located close to the Maputo Ring Road, right at the entrance to the territory of the warrior people of Gwaza Muthini, coming from Costa do Sol.
The project, approximately 15km from the centre of the capital, is estimated to be worth more than US$100 million, and has three phases. Work started in 2020 and is scheduled for completion in 2025.
Governor Júlio Parruque thanked the investors for their great undertaking, saying he hoped the project would address the demand for housing among young people and uphold standards of excellence, mirroring the great development that Marracuene is experiencing.
At the end of the visit, the Jiangxi Corporation donated masks for the prevention of Covid-19.
