Another attack in Pundanhar, Palma - Mediafax
The 57 Maputo-Catembe bridge deck segments yesterday started being moved to their intermediate positons, four being transported to the Catembe side and four to the north tower in the Port of Maputo.
The first eight pieces removed from the ship will form the ends of the main deck and will be the last to be assembled. For technical reasons, the main platform of the bridge will be built from the centre outwards.
Unloading the eight parts provided the opportunity to test equipment, especially the crane used, and the correction of some details before the fixing of the deck commences, an operation expected at any time.
Unloading began less than 24 hours after the deck components arrived in Maputo from China.
Connected together, the 57 pieces will constitute a deck about 680 meters in length suspended from steel cables, two of which area full half a metre in diameter. The weight of the metal box-profile segments varies between 125 and 137 tons, according to Maputo Sul.
The assembly should be completed within a period of 30 to 45 days. Thereafter, finishing and safety certification will be to the fore, and painting against the maritime environment and to repair any minor scratches occurring during assembly.Source: Notícias
