Health authorities are reinforcing measures to prevent coronavirus entering Mozammbique by increasing the number of personnel in teams responsible for screening incoming travellers.
So far, no suspected cases have been detected.
For most countries, airports are the most likely gateway for people infected with the coronavirus. To prevent cases in Mozambique, the authorities are strengthening surveillance measures at Mavalane International Airport.
The main focus is on citizens from 14 Europeans and Asians countries – especially China.
In addition to strengthening the team at the airport, a room has been created to isolate people suspected of contamination pending subsequent medical procedures.
Coronavirus is the fourth ‘global disease’ to put Mozambican authorities on high alert, after yellow fever, H1N1 and Ebola.
