Faced with an outbreak of cholera in the neighboring province of Sofala, Manica health authorities are on high alert. Another sector concern relates to the increase in the number of malaria cases after Cyclone Idai.
The Inchope intersection is a main point of convergence for people in transit, and the place health authorities have chosen to stop people leaving Sofala province, where cholera is now taking lives.
Here, motorists and passengers have to wash their hands, in an attempt to prevent cholera from spreading to other parts of the country.
The provincial health director says the measure also extends to the 27 accommodation centres set up for victims of Cyclone Idai.
Besides the creation of cholera blocking centres, the health sector is involved in vaccination campaigns and lectures sensitizing communities affected by rains as a way of preventing the spread of water-borne diseases.
