The government of Manica yesterday suspended the 25 percent increase in chapa fares, claiming, according to O País, that the provincial Association of Transporters decision was taken without the consent of the authorities.
However, carriers challenge this interpretation, and claim to be operating at a loss under the present tariffs. According to their association, the fare rise proposal was presented to the government timeously, but the government failed to respond.
