According to the latest survey conducted by the Ministry of Health between April and June of this year, the prevalence of malaria in children under five years of age in Zambézia province has fallen from 68% in 2015 to 44%.
Measures such as the campaign to distribute mosquito nets and home spraying are believed to be behind the reduction in the number of malaria cases in Mozambique’s second most populous province.
Today, Zambézia sees the launch of a spraying campaign that will cover six districts: Mopeia, Mortumbala, Derre, Maganja da Costa, Molumbo, and Milange.
The campaign foresees spraying more than 346,000 homes and protecting over 1.5 million people against malaria.
