Mozambique/Cyclones: World Bank, government disburse €119M for roadworks in rural areas
This Friday in Beijing President Filipe Nyusi held a meeting with the Director General of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Christine Lagarde, reads a communique from the presidency, adding that Nyusi and Lagarde discussed” various aspects of cooperation between the country and that multilateral organisation”.
During the meeting, Christine Lagarde said she was impressed by the progress made in governance in Mozambique since the last meeting the Head of State held with the Director General, which took place in the United States in 2016.
The IMF notes the ongoing economic reforms and the understandings reached to date with the opposition and encouraged President Nyusi to pursue these processes, reads the communique.
Finally, at the meeting, Christine Lagarde invited Mozambique to be part of the group of countries adopting resilient responses to climate change.
I had a good meeting with President Nyusi and reiterated the IMF’s support for #Mozambique’s recovery. We agreed the IMF’s concessional assistance and quick disbursement of $118.2m at zero interest rate will help the rebuilding effort and spur even more int’l support #CycloneIdai pic.twitter.com/6uhk6bBDJ0
