Irish Minister of State for the Diaspora and International Development, Ciarán Cannon, announced €1 million of additional support for victims of cyclones Idai and Kenneth in Sofala and Cabo Delgado after meeting Mozambique’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, José Pacheco, on Thursday.
Ireland has made €1.1 million available to improve the business environment in Mozambique in recent years,Cannon identifying further opportunities in the fields of trade, agriculture and technology cooperation.
Minister Pacheco said that Ireland had consolidated investments in Inhambane province, which the Irish Minister of State was shortly to visit.
Ireland, which has itself been living in peace for twenty years after long-standing politico-religious conflict, has expressed a desire to help Mozambique build effective peace
Minister of State Cannon’s visit to Mozambique is ongoing from 5 to 9 December, 2019. Following political and community engagements in Maputo on 6 November, Minister Cannon will travel north to Inhambane on 7 and 8 November, where he will visit a number of Ireland-funded health, education and water and sanitation projects.
