New -York Listed hotel Chain, Hilton on Wednesday announced a$1 million investment to drive sustainable travel and tourism in Africa, focusing on five pillars.Among the pillars include local sourcing, which will see the integration of local entrepreneurs into Hilton’s supply chain and capacity building to deliver high quality and authentic goods and services.
The pillars will focus on youth opportunity, water stewardship, anti-human trafficking, local sourcing and protecting wildlife.
The announcement follows the recent launch of Hilton’s Travel with Purpose 2030 goals to double its investment in social impact and cut its environmental footprint in half across the globe.
While addressing the ongoing Africa Hotel Investment Forum in Nairobi, Hilton’s President and CEO, Chris Nassetta pointed out that they are committed to grow business in Africa in a way that promotes sustainable travel and tourism.
“Today we are pleased to take our efforts to the next level with an initial commitment of $1 million, which will allow us to invest in and scale up initiatives that build skills among young people, mitigate risks in human trafficking, engage local entrepreneurs across our supply chain, improve water efficiencies and promote responsible wildlife-based tourism,” he said.
Hilton announced on Tuesday it is on track to more than double in size in the next five years.
With 41 open hotels and 53 in its development pipeline in Africa, Hilton expects to double its footprint across the continent in the next five years.
