A seven-year-old girl died last Saturday after being allegedly raped and murdered by three men, two of whom are still at large.
After the crime, the men allegedly put the child in a bag which they dumped on the ground next to her house.
Information collected at the scene of the crime indicates that the child was taken on Saturday afternoon by the suspected rapists to the quarters of one of the three men, all aged between 30 and 34 years.
It was around nine o’clock when the criminals decided to satisfy their sexual appetites, by which time the girl’s family were wearying of their search for the victim.
The disheartened uncle told O País that the rape interrupted the seven-year-old’s dreams that Saturday, a day that will never leave the whole family’s mind.
Our source also revealed that the criminals lived in a small house that they had rented about four months ago.
“There are three big men, who raped and killed my seven-year-old ‘daughter’ and, after having their way, put the child in a bag and threw it in the trash bin. My niece still had a lot to do in her life. She was in second grade and had many dreams,” the child’s uncle said.
The sole detainee, a bricklayer and the father of a 10-year-old girl, denies any involvement in the crime and says police have beaten him to get him to confess to a crime he did not commit.
“Who confirms that I raped the child, who confirms it? I have a wife at home, I could not do that. The police beat me to confess to something I did not do, and they told me to hold these bags so it will be assumed that I raped and killed the child,” he said.
In the seventh police station of the T 3 neighbourhood, Matola Municipality, where the alleged offender is imprisoned, the police told ‘O País’ that the gang had a criminal history and was on the run.
“This gang has always terrorised the neighbourhoods of Matola. They are fugitives from the maximum security prison commonly known as B.O.,” police spokesman Fernando Manhiça said.
The crime, which happened in Unit D in neighbourhood T 3, is not the first rape or murder in the area, and residents frequently demand better vigilance on the part of the police authorities.
