Health teams have been deployed to the scene to assist the injured, carrying first aid kits as the local health unit was vandalised and set on fire, Pinnacle News reports.
According to the same source, local authorities in the coastal village in the province of Cabo Delgado had counted 66 houses burned down along with their barns, “In fact, a good part of that population kept agricultural surpluses on the roofs of their houses as usual and customary,” reads the Pinnacle News report.
A source resident in that village told Pinnacle News that the first houses to be set ablaze were those at the centre of the village and little by little those in the vicinity. And that the people “attacked” were those who first tried to flee and take refuge in the woods, using open paths.
There are women among the victims, adds the report.
This is the deadliest attack since October last year when a so called insurgency which has still made no known claims began.
Yesterday, another attack reportedly tool place in Pundanhar against a military BTR patrolling the area. According to Mediafax, several soldiers were killed.
