The Judicial Court of Maputo City yesterday heard statements from the personal assistant and nanny of the daughter of Zófimo Muiuane and Valentina Guebuza. Today, it was the turn of the godparents, who were in the couple’s residence for a meeting just two hours before the victim’s death.
They are Amosse Zita, Rosa Chongo and Feliciano and Eulália Gundana, godparents of the couple’s religious and civil marriage, who maintained they did not notice anything strange during the meeting with the couple in their residence on the fateful day.
The respondents said that during the meeting, Valentina Guebuza tried to throw her husband out, claiming that she “needed time”. “Get out of here … Get out of here … ” she said. Zófimo Muiuane replied: “I cannot leave. I cannot go to Micandjuine (his parents’ house), and my house is being rented out”, according to witness Amosse Zita.
“He (Zófimo) even called Valentina stupid, crazy and dumb during the meeting,” Rosa Chongo said.
Nevertheless, according to their statements, the godparents were unanimous in saying that at the time they left the couple’s house at around 8:00 p.m. on the day of the incident, the couple seemed calm, with nothing indicating that such a tragedy was about to happen.
The hearing will continue tomorrow, with the elder brother and godfather of the defendant, the nephew and co-worker of the victim and four PRM agents giving testimony.
