Speaking at a “Red Wave” grassroots meeting in Chimoio, Manica province, Frelimo president Filipe Nyusi has urged members to work for victory in the October 15 elections for the party of the drum and the corn cob [batuque e maçaroca].
Filipe Nyusi began by dispelling misconceptions by people who think that Frelimo has already started campaigning, saying the movements which have been triggered by members and supporters so far are only preparations for the upcoming elections.
“Victory is prepared, victory is organised. And is to be organised on the last day? So, when you organize, are you confused that you are campaigning before [due time]? When you eat at your home, are you campaigning before [due time]?” Nyusi asked.
Filipe Nyusi’s criticism was reserved not only for outsiders but also for those within the party, him saying that the few outbreaks of discontent which he believes to have occurred, had little foundation.
“We will not allow divisions between ourselves. They will try to tell you that ‘You should be a deputy, a member of the assembly, a head of list .You are the ones who choose. We will choose next time,’” he said.
Nyusi took the opportunity to present Carlos Agostinho de Rosario and Francisca Tomás, who are running as Frelimo head of list for the Assembly of the Republic and for governor of Manica province respectively.
